Influx of asylum seekers in January 2022

​In January 2022, the total influx of asylum seekers, i.e., the sum of first and repeated applications for asylum and dependents, was 2,720. The preceding is a drop relative to the two preceding months, namely 3,751 in December and 4,578 in November.

The top 5 countries of origin of asylum seekers who filed an asylum application in January 2022 comprise Syria (1,021), Pakistan (214), Turkey (159), Afghanistan (142), and Yemen (120).

First asylum applications

The number of first asylum applications in January was 1,961. In December, it was 2,417. The top 5 countries of origin of asylum seekers who filed a first asylum application are Syria (552), Pakistan (201), Afghanistan (124), Turkey (122), and Yemen (91).

Afghanistan Evacuation

Of the 124 first applications for asylum mentioned with the country of origin Afghanistan, 52 applications were filed by persons who had been transferred to the Netherlands from Afghanistan.

Repeated asylum applications

The number of repeated asylum applications in January was 112. In December, there were 147. The top 5 countries of origin of asylum seekers who submitted a repeated asylum application are Iran (18), Syria (8), Nigeria (7), Russian Federation (7) and Egypt (6).

Joining family members

The number of persons seeking family reunification in January was 647. In December, there were 1,187. The top 5 countries persons seeking family reunification originate from are Syria (461), Turkey (37), Yemen (29), Eritrea (27) and stateless (21).

UMA

The number of applications for asylum filed with the aim "Unaccompanied Minor Alien" (UMA) in January was 198. In December, there were 281. The top 5 countries of origin of UMAs are Syria (84), Eritrea (40), Somalia (16), Afghanistan (12) and Morocco (10).
