No decisions on applications filed by asylum seekers from Lebanon for now
For the time being, the Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND) will not make any decisions on asylum applications filed…
The IND has started reconstruction of the registration centre in Ter Apel. This renovation is necessary due to major maintenance and to provide better support to the asylum process. The work will last till 2026.
The work of the IND in Ter Apel will continue as normal during the renovation. We have taken extensive measures to minimize the inconvenience caused by the renovation and to ensure that the users of the registration centre experience as little inconvenience as possible.
The renovation, that will last till 2026, is necessary to carry out major maintenance and to better support the asylum processes at the registration centre. The working environment will also be improved. A complete metamorphosis is taking place of the IND offices and the outdoor area. For example, the walls, doors, ceilings and facades will be replaced and installations will be adjusted. In the meantime, work is being done outside the site on more parking facilities. Due to the renovation, the registration centre will require less maintenance and become more sustainable. It is valuable for IND employees, customers and local residents.
Sustainability is a priority during the reconstruction. Circular materials are used as much as possible, as well as LED lighting and solar panels. All this should help to increase the energy label of the registration centre, which is in line with the objectives of the central government. The building will therefore meet the BREAAM excellent standard (sustainability certificate). In addition, we design the site in a nature-inclusive manner, which means, for example, that we take measures that contribute to biodiversity.
