Invitation application interview
After you have applied for asylum, you will receive an invitation for an application interview. During the application interview, an IND employee will ask you questions about your origins and journey to the Netherlands. It may take several months before you receive an invitation for this. This waiting time only applies in the following situation:
- You have been to the police (AVIM) or Royal Netherlands Marechaussee for identification and registration. You signed your asylum application there.
- You do not come from a safe country of origin.
- You apply for asylum for the first time in the Netherlands. You did not provide fingerprints in a different EU/EEA country or Switzerland. You also did not travel to the Netherlands with a visa from one of these countries.
- You are over 18 years old. Or you are a minor, but you are in the Netherlands with a parent or caregiver.
Waiting time for application interview
When you will have the application interview depends on the date of your asylum application. The table below shows your waiting time. The first column illustrates when you submitted your asylum application. The second column shows the period in which you can then expect your application interview.
Period of asylum application | Expected period application interview |
---|---|
Before 2 December 2024 | 30 December 2024 to 5 January 2025 |
Between 9 December 2024 and 29 December 2024 | 6 January 2025 to 12 January 2025 |
Between 30 December 2024 and 5 January 2025 | 13 January 2025 to 19 January 2025 |
Example
You applied for asylum on 3 January 2025. That means your application interview will take place no later than 19 January 2025. Has the last day of the waiting time passed and have you not yet had an application interview? Then ask an employee of the Dutch Council for Refugees (VWN) whether they can contact the IND. Following this example, you can ask VWN for help by 20 January 2025.
