No decisions on applications filed by asylum seekers from Lebanon for now
For the time being, the Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND) will not make any decisions on asylum applications filed…
In September 2022, the total influx of asylum seekers (the total number of first and repeat applications and family reunifications) was 5,374. This is an increase compared to the previous month: in August, it was 4,897. This brings the total asylum influx this year to 34,613.
The number of first asylum applications was 4,324 in September. In August, it was 3,717. Up until now, the total number of first asylum applications in 2022 is 24,124. This is practically the same as the total number in all of 2021 (24,686).
These are the top 5 countries of origin of asylum seekers who submitted a first asylum application in September: Syria (2,048), Turkey (386), Yemen (285), Afghanistan (243) and Eritrea (167).
Russian invasion of Ukraine
Developments in the world often have a direct impact on the work of the IND. In the coming period, it must be seen to which extent the announced partial mobilisation in Russia will lead to asylum applications in the Netherlands in the long term. In September, the number of asylum applications by people from the Russian Federation was 38.
Unaccompanied minors (AMVs)
The number of asylum applications submitted by unaccompanied minors (AMVs) was 451 in September. In August, it was 621. More than half (277) originated from Syria.
Up until now, the total number of AMVs applying for asylum is 2,706. This is higher than the total number of AMVs in all of 2021 (2,021).
Catching-up effort identification & registration
An application is only included in the numbers once the first asylum application has been signed during identification and registration by the Aliens Police (AVIM). Since 15 August this year, catching-up efforts are being made to clear the identification and registration backlog of asylum seekers. These catching-up efforts influence the monthly statistics on first asylum applications.
The number of repeat asylum applications was 91 in September. In August, it was 113.
The number of people arriving for asylum family reunification was 959 in September. In August, it was 1,067. Two-thirds of reuniting family members (643) came from Syria.
